Who we are

Hi! Victoria here, I want to welcome you to Sqweet Things.

I started my baking journey back in 2020. In November of 2020 as I was finishing up my first semester in University I realized my immense passion for baking. I couldn’t see myself getting through four years of university and ending up in an office job. I was a hands on learner and knew I needed something more. That’s when I tapped back into a passion I had from a young age, baking. I grew up baking and cooking with my mom and grandmothers, it was something I truly enjoyed. So in December of 2020 I finished my semester at University and dropped out. I decided to apply to George Brown College Baking and Pastry Arts program for enrolment in September of 2021.

This left me nine months to work and grow my portfolio and skills at home, thus the start of Sqweet Things.

I spent the first nine months of 2021 honing my baking skills, specifically my cake decorating skills. I knew I wanted that to be my main focus in my career, I love baking and creating other products like cookies and jams and dipped treats but my true passion lies within cake decorating.

Our Name

Now I know what you’re thinking, why is it Sweet with a Q? The backstory is pretty simple, it comes from my nonna. With her Italian accent it’s a bit difficult to pronounce some English words such as sweet. A Q gets tossed in there making it a pretty cute word and I thought it made for a pretty cute business name.

Education & Skill Set

I attended George Brown College’s Baking and Pastry Arts Two year program in 2021. I graduated in June of 2023 as an official pastry chef. Over the years I have honed my pastry chef skills from both self-taught experiences and a range of Cake Decorator and Pastry Chef rolls.
